Harry Potter and The Weird Teenager
Hello there fellow bookworms. Nah, that sounds old. Hi. Yup, much better.
WARNING - SPOILERS
Harry Potter and Percy Jackson are often put together, like pieces of a large bookish puzzle. And in many was they are similar.
Boy protagonist with very famous parent.
Two best friends.
They both have to die at the end (I think)
I honestly shouldn't be making this comparison (maybe because I have only read half of the first Percy Jackson book and I'm totally biased towards Professor McGonagall.) but here I am doing it anyway! A lot of my friends are big Percy Jackson fans. I actually first noticed Percy Jackson when I noticed Ann reading it.
And I thought it was about Percy Weasly
Now I will narrate my life with Potter.
My mother is the biggest Potterhead I know. She tried convincing me to watch Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone when I was seven. I got scared of every scene. Why? Because I was weird.
My mother's set of Potter Books got washed away in the 2018 flood and she was pretty devastated. When I was nine, I think, she bought me the first book. I found the first chapter very confusing. So confusing that I put it on my shelf and forgot about it. My mother managed to get me to watch the first movie but I freaked out at the second one. Mainly because there was a lot of rule-breaking and I was what you would call a goody-two-shoes. But somehow I enjoyed the third movie, The Prisoner of Azkaban. Maybe it was just because it was fun to say Azkaban. Azkaban. Azkaban.
And I was too scared to watch the fourth movie.
And I didn't attempt watching the fifth.
Not then anyway.
So, fast-forward three years later. Sixth grade. I see the book on my shelf. I'm bored. I pick it up. I fall in love.
I read on the couch, I read on the floor, I read in the bus, I read in school, I read under the covers with a torch, I read in the bathroom (don't judge!) I read everywhere! I finished the book and since my mother forced me to watch the second movie I knew the plot of the Chamber Of Secrets so I decided to skip over to the third book (also, I still disliked it then)
Angela, a friend from school, let me borrow the third book.
I read on the couch, I read on the floor, I read in the bus, I read in school, I read under the covers with a torch, I read in the bathroom (again)
I was happy and exhilarated. And my interest for the second book piqued. So after asking my father to buy it for me, the Harry Potter reading pattern resumed. After loving it to my peak, I bought the fourth book and borrowed the last three from Beth. (From which, the fifth and sixth books were my Favourite!)
I read all the books in three months and I felt very happy. But there was something missing. I forgot to do something to make me an official Potterhead. Watching the movies! Duh!
So I took Charlie, a blanket and turned on the TV and binge-watched all the movies from first to last. Squealing, laughing, crying (how many times should I say to not judge)
Also, I know it might not be believable, but I'm a Ravenclaw! Woohoo!
I expected to be a Hufflepuff, but the test was kinda like really, really close into giving me Slytherin. Never knew I had it in me! Go Ravenclaw! Tia might say me and Luna have a lot in common. I don't really care. Luna is one of my faves!
Now, I'll go on to say stuff which will make the Entirety of the Percy Jackson community angry. Spare me the hate on my very personal opinions.
I feel like Potter is more, how do I say this, relatable .
Sure, all of us here are stupid muggles, but c'mon.
I can relate much more to begging the smartest kid in our year to give me her homework five minutes before my school's version of Snape appears than to Hades buying me McDonalds.
And well, (Great, I'm burying my own grave) I find Jackson a bit boring.
Don't go Arthur Weasly on me! I just, read halfway through Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, yawned, closed the book and well, forgot about it. And Harry just never keeps it boring. Something's normal one minute, the other minute Arthur Weasly got mauled by Nagini.
Well that's it for this week!
Bye!
