The Land Of Silence
The Land Of Silence
Hold your breath as you enter the gate,
Of the building that decides your fate
Twists and turns, a hundred feet tall
It plans your rise and designs your fall
Tests and grades, a whole new world.
Evaluate every boy and girl.
But at a little chatter, they will shout
No words to be spoken, shut your mouth.
For hours on end, you will shut up and hear.
Individualism so last year.
Children who can't understand what all this about,
Keep your trap shut and get out.
Every spark of rebellion
Squashed like ants
Writers and poets
Forced to dance.
Those who can't shine among the rubble,
Thrown away like trash, blamed for trouble.
Those who can't be forced to the mould,
Put them in the office, they don't do what they're told.
Painters and dancers
are to be biologists, study the heart.
Mathematicians and geologists
Have got to do art.
Haven't done homework?
Off to the guillotine.
Laughed in class?
Not to speak, just to be seen.
March pass in uniforms,
Hands behind, not slack.
Hair in cuts or silly braids.
The Land Of Silence is back.
