MY OBSESSION WITH EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING FURRY
HOWDY!
This title doesn't mean I am in love with hair-covered worms or insects( though some may argue I am a fake nature lover because of this), I love dogs, cats, mongooses( even ones that poop on school hallways), rabbits, squirrels and ferrets( Draco Malfoy included). Their furry faces and big eyes make me want to squeeze the life out of them. When people think of a teen animal lover, they think they love all dogs. But let me clarify: I do NOT love big scary labradors chasing me when my only aim is to make it to my friend's place in one piece. Trust me I have first-hand experience. However, I like labs when they sit obediently with their tongue out, letting me pet them without chopping my hand off. I had a dog once. It is a sad story really.
He was a beagle, Milo, the most beautiful, cutest little one in the world. But one day he lost his playfulness and happy eyes. He didn't want to run or play. He just lay down looking sad. And one day, we found out he had dengue. We did all we could. But he wasn't the same. And one day, my grandfather was about to take him on a walk, when he fell and began shaking uncontrollably. He was having a seizure. I couldn't hold back my tears as my grandfather took him in his car and drove away. I was so scared and afraid. The doctors told back that he had some deadly disease. I cried uncontrollably when I first heard it. It was too much to think that we were about to lose our little boy. When I heard that he had left, I felt like I wanted to leave too. He was only four. A baby. And it has only been seven months since it happened."I'm feeling a little better, but it still hurts a bit as I write this.". Our little one suffered so much. Now he went to a world where it is all gone. A better place.
Now away from the sad story. One of my goals in life is to open a no-kill pet shelter. I love work He will always be in my heart. Working with animals. Along with becoming a writer my other ambition is to become a vet. It feels so good to help injured animals. Though I might have a little too much passion. One time I went to a cousin's place and there was this beautiful cat there. I might have chased it around a bit too much because the cat was try'na hide in every place imaginable. In my defence, none of the people I have met had a cat that did not stay cooped up in the attic( the cat in my French cousin's place does) and I was only ten! And I never saw him again. Pity. There was this cat at my French cousin's place, he wasn't the one that lay cooped up. I'll call him Tiger. When I visited, I was a wee afraid of cats. So I did not poke much into Tiger's business. But then my parents, my aunt, and my youngest cousin, I'll call him Leslie(I have no idea why the other two weren't there)went to this woman's place to stay for a few days. I honestly don't know why, but it was pretty fun. They lived on a pretty French farm and had two pets- a large Golden retriever, I'll call Water Lily and a small black cat, I'll call Pepper. At first, I was a bit afraid of Water Lily, but his playful nature got me warming up to him pretty soon. And then, I wanted to play with Pepper too! But the cat always stayed in the attic which Ma told us strictly not to go to. I tried to coax him down, but he always just looked at me, appearing smug. And I was left pretty frustrated and sad, at least I had Water Lily!
I don't love only dogs and cats, I like horses too. I have only ridden a horse in carnivals or resorts. But I do know a thing or two about them, thanks to the research I had to do for one of my books.
Did you know horses have an almost 360-degree field view? They have a large eye diameter which helps them see in low light and they can spot predators from a distance. And they sleep standing up!
I have a Dutch cousin, I'll call her Karlie, she came to visit with her family a few months ago. We went to a restaurant and we got talking. She was funny and taught me a bit of Dutch. She told me about her place. She has two bunnies, one white and one black. And they were adorable! She had pictures of them on her phone. But that was not the best part, she had a pony! And what a beauty she was. The pony stayed on the ranch next to her house and showed me photos of her sitting on it, saddle and everything! And she had a whole ranch next to her filled with horses and animals! I would've begged my parents to let me go with her right then and there. Being so close to all sorts of species makes me so happy inside. See! This is the exact reason one of my goals is to open a no-kill shelter. It hurts me to see animals suffer and the cruelty that is shown to them.
Mountain goats are cute too. I went to Munnar with my grandparents and Ru where we went up this hill. It was filled with mountain goats of all shapes and sizes. There was this cute pair of a mother and baby. We followed them until the top and we were not allowed any further. I was taking a look at a pretty flower when I looked up and found myself face-to-face with a goat. I was so startled but I almost fell backwards. But little did I know, that goat was a model. The goat was posing in all the pictures people took. I am sure he even smiled.
I like animals, love them even. Even though I may have gotten into a few sticky situations. This blog has been a hit so far. Thank you to everyone reading this. Comment on a situation you found yourself in with a pet. 'Til the next story

ReplyDeleteMilo, may he rest in peace 😔
ReplyDeleteI have had this experience where a crow pooped on my head and as I started chasing it with my bare hands it cawed as if it was saying so long sucker !! I have always gotten afraid of crowd ever since ... But here the story is simple ,sad ,beautiful and never forget able 💖..-Rachael
ReplyDeleteHa! A crow pooped on me once in second grade too. Except I only got really annoyed and disgusted. The only time I have been afraid of a crow was in the school canteen, I was putting my plate away when this crow appeared and looked at me menacingly as if to say, " These are my scraps, pip squeak". I honestly just froze.
