MISS GREEN

 NI HAO!

Long time no see. School has kept me busy recently. I actually managed to cook up a story. About a girl who's finding it a bit hard to study because of her ADHD. I name it-

                                                            MISS GREEN

"But I don't want to go" wailed Sally Jonath. Sally was a girl one wouldn't find very interesting. She has a grumpy mood, dull brown eyes and a nasty temper. She flipped her long black hair and said, "I won't have it, I am not moving!" Her mother rolled her eyes." You don't have a choice, Sally. Your father has found a well-paying job in Chicago. You'll find plenty of friends there-"
"NOO" Sally yelled. But soon everything from their house was packed and put in the trunk. Sally looked out of the window of their car, teary-eyed. ' My awful awful life" she grumbled. Chicago was big and huge compared to the small farm they had been living in. There were tall buildings, cars driving at the speed of light and people bustling around, cursing under their breath. " I like home better," thought Sally. They moved into a small house which Sally couldn't help but like. " Bet school will be worse though," she thought.
Chicago Elementary was the biggest school she ever set eyes on. The kids didn't even notice her when she walked into her class. All the children were busy talking about what they did during the summer. She found an empty desk and sat down. She had no one to talk to and nothing to do. Suddenly a kid sat next to her. "You new?" she asked, her voice clear with confidence. She had dark skin and her hair was in braids. But her most beautiful features were her bright shiny blue eyes glowing with enthusiasm. Sally just nodded. Soon that girl was busy talking with her other friends. " she's so- so confident. I'll never be like her," thought Sally. Just then a teacher walked in. The teacher had long silky hair and bright green glasses. She also had a huge smile plastered across her face which Sally didn't seem to like. However, everyone else seemed to like her, so Sally thought it was just her. All her words were sweet and sugar-coated and she never seemed to punish anyone for being rude and disobedient. Sally didn't enjoy her class much though. Soon the bell rang, it was science. Another teacher walked in. Her blonde hair was tied in a pony and she wore a small locket around her neck. Her name was Mrs Green. And everyone didn't seem to like her compared to Mrs Jackson. Nobody dared to misbehave though. Mrs Green spoke softly but her voice echoed through the classroom. She had a strict and direct tone. For some reason, Sally enjoyed Mrs Green's class way better.
Weeks passed and Sally was struggling. She couldn't concentrate and had a short attention span. Mrs Jackson seemed to stop calling on her to ask questions. And she was deemed stupid. Sally hated being made fun of. She'd sit under the stairs to eat lunch and didn't talk to anyone. One day during class, Mrs Green told her to meet her later, during lunch. Sally felt embarrassed, was she really that stupid? When she visited, she felt her heart thump loudly at Mrs Green's stern face. She was given a few science questions and had 15 minutes to answer all of them. But soon Sally found herself not concentrating. She was doodling over the page and daydreaming about her lunch the next day. And Mrs Green closely observed her. Telling her to meet her the next day, Mrs Green let Sally go. The next day at lunch, she was surprised to find Mrs Green with an experiment set. That day she found herself understanding, and everything was so fun. They made a rocket, dissected owl pellets and searched for elements from the periodic table. After a week of that fun, Mrs Green gave her a test like the one on the first day. And it was surprisingly easy. She answered every single question correctly. She stared at the paper in shock- "But how?" she murmured, " I could barely concentrate for ten minutes before". " You have ADHD darling, it does not allow you to concentrate for long periods. But as science proved, nothing is impossible." " But why did you want to help me? It feels as if Mrs Jackson has already given up," Sally asked softly, feeling her voice get choky. Mrs Green showed her the pendant around her neck, " I had dyslexia growing up, I was bad at learning. That was until, my teacher, Mr Rune, took me under his wing. I had a feeling that you were suffering something similar. And I am glad I tutored you because you are an incredibly smart child. You have got to show yourself to the world Sal dear." With that Mrs Green put her pendant around Sally's neck.
And that Sally did. As Sally's attention span grew she began to ace Mrs Jackson's class in a way it was hard to ignore. "I can't believe I didn't see your potential before Ms Jonath," said Mrs Jackson while handing out another aced test. " Mrs Green tutored you, didn't she?" said the blue-eyed girl she was sitting next to, " I was shy and blubbery as well. Mrs Green showed me how to be confident. She's nice when she wants to be. Way better than Mrs Jackson in my opinion. The name is Alyssa by the way".
Sally smiled. Her first friend! Her eyes shone beautifully like they never had before, "Pretty, mine's Sally. But call me Sal". And they grew inseparable. Sally became a teacher when she grew up, with a happy mood, twinkling eyes and a controlled temper. All thanks to Mrs Green.

'Til the next story-
