I Got Glasses!
Yes, I got glasses.
And yes, they're a big pain in the neck.
And yes, I'll tell you the entire story. To keep it short, I'll say it now. It was all my sister's fault.
My sister needed her annual eye test to check whether to change her lens power. My guess was yes, since she rarely ever wore them. We were waiting in the waiting room (as expected of someone sitting in the waiting room) when Ru started whining about having to wear glasses. I was grimacing over the fact that I didn't bring a book to pass the time. That's when Ru said, "Why can't N have glasses? She can't read anything."
My head shot up, and my book worries vanished. I knew that I had trouble seeing details that were far away, but the mere thought of wearing glasses made me squirm. I was fine as I was. And Ru wasn't happy about that. My father scoffed. He also thought I didn't need glasses. But then he decided to put my vision to the test. "Read that yellow board over there, N."
I bit my lip. All I could see were blurring lines and occasional stray letters. My father's smug face changed, and I felt my stomach drop to the bottom of my body. "Do you need glasses, N?" my father asked, worried. I shook my head so hard it hurt. This time it was my sister's turn to look smug. I felt like I wanted to punch her in the face. That stupid monkey.
It was agreed I'd go on June 7th. The remainder of the week, I lay awake at night, praying to the heavens above that the doctor will get hit by the Confundus charm and'll say I have perfect vision. It was all I could think about. It was all I could talk about.
The next week, on June 7th, I went to take my eye test. And to my utter disappointment, I needed two sheets of glass in front of my face.
The next part was fun, though. I got to pick my frame. It took a pink square frame that I thought looked good. I felt weird wearing them to school the next day. But nobody but my friends really said anything. Al thought they looked good. Ally winced when she saw my face. Panda kept on repeating the same thing - "You got glasses."
"This is not the right way to wear glasses," Tia said, and took them off my face. "There, that's the best way for you." Other than everyone's weird reactions, I felt the same. Well, I found it annoying that I couldn't rest my face without taking my glasses off. And they kept on getting dirty when it rained. But, one night I was reaching for something, I pushed my glasses back. I wasn't wearing them.
It's sorta weird, but it's something I could get used to.
"Take them off. That's Better,"
- Tia
